We all require physical exercise to stay fit, healthy and in shape. Since there are so many different forms of exercise to choose from, depending on your personal preferences, budget and abilities, you might as well choose something attractive! This also makes it more likely you will stick at the activity rather than get bored of it quickly.
Water Sports – Fishing, Swimming, Surfing and Sailing
If you live near the water, you should make use of it. You could try fishing which is good exercise if you are fighting strong, heavy fish (but no so good if you are relaxing and drinking beer!) Or how about swimming, surfing, windsurfing or sailing? Even 15 minutes of gentle swimming is better than nothing and swimming tones almost every part of the body.
Daily Activities – Walking and Shopping
Some of our day to day activities count as exercise. Shopping involves walking as well as carrying. If you need to walk somewhere, use a brisk, steady pace.
Do You Have a Dog?
Dogs definitely keep you fit. Not only is walking, running or playing with your dog great fun but it is wonderful exercise and your dog will love you for it.
Horse Riding
Perhaps you love horse riding. There is a lot more to riding than mounting a horse and sitting there. You have to use your arm and leg muscles when riding.
Cycling
If you enjoy seeing the scenery and you want to get some healthy, fresh air, a bike is a very good idea. An alternative is a stationary exercise bike which you can ride in the comfort of your own home while watching the TV.
Trampolining
You can have a great time on a trampoline, either a large one in a sports center or a small one to use at home (make sure your ceilings aren't too low!) Bouncing on a trampoline is a great cardiovascular activity and excellent for toning the legs, buttocks and stomach.
Burn Fat with Skating and Dancing
Skating and dancing are enjoyable and you can do these activities either alone or with some friends. Ice skating and roller skating are both excellent for burning calories and toning the lower body. Knee pads and elbow pads are a good idea for beginners.
There are many styles of dancing, depending on the type of music you like and the dance style you prefer. Examples include tap dancing, salsa, modern dance, ballet and ballroom. Dancing tones the whole body and burns fat.
Gardening
Gardening is enjoyable because you will see great results after a while, in both your physical fitness and your garden produce. Mowing the lawn and sawing down trees burn a lot of calories but plucking out weeds and watering flowers are also exercise.
Exercise Classes
There are a lot of different exercise classes available if you like to work out in a group. You can choose from aerobics, spinning, yoga (some forms of yoga are very energetic!), step classes, Pilates and much more. The best thing to do is try a variety of classes to find which one you like the most.
Different types of exercise appear attractive to different people. Taking some exercise is better than taking none. The key is to find something you really enjoy and stick at it.
